AT&T HTC One M8 Issues

Hello,

I have a AT&T M8, bought a year ago from the US (i am currently in the EU). The phone worked perfect until one week ago when i dropped it and the SIM stopped working (it wouldn't get recognized). After some time, this issue was solved, but I realised that the camera wasn't working anymore (when you open the camera app (or any other camera-related app, for that matter), the screen would stay black, after which the app will close without any error message (for Snapchat or Whatsapp or Messenger it would just stay black.)
I know that there was a way to solve this before Lollipop by unchecking fastboot (option not available anymore after the update), but is there any other way to solve this? I have tried to update to the latest Android, failed (when downloading the official version, it gets either stuck on the Sending phase, or gives me a 171 error (USB).
I have thought of trying to get it back to KitKat in order to see if I can solve the camera issue, but I haven't found a working way to install it on my phone.

So, questions:

-how can I solve the camera issue in Lollipop?
-how can I get past the "Sending" phase when trying to update?
