The Nokia X6 launched in China well back in May and was rumored to launch globally later this year as an Android One device. HMD Global has now announced its global launch, and it's under a new name. The Nokia 6.1 Plus is here, and it runs Android 8.1 Oreo as part of the Android One program. As such, it will be receiving AOSP updates directly from Google.

The Nokia 6.1 Plus boasts the exact same specifications as the Nokia X6, even weighing the same. As such, we already know what to expect from all of its hardware. Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636, it's coupled with 4GB of RAM, which is enough for a great mid-range device. Strangely, there is one difference between the Nokia 6.1 Plus and the Nokia X6 – there is only one RAM/storage variant. You can only purchase this phone with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.
The battery is about average and will charge quickly thanks to Quick Charge 3.0 via a USB-C port. There's also a headphone jack here, so you can consume media and charge at the same time. As for the camera, it's got a dual camera setup comprised of a 16MP shooter and a 5MP shooter. The front-facing camera is a single 16MP shooter.
But where the Nokia 6.1 Plus shines is its inclusion in the Android One program. That means it will receive AOSP-based upgrades directly from Google, and they should be pretty fast too. The device will be launching in both Blue and White globally, and its debut date is set to be July 24th in Hong Kong. It will cost HKD 2,288, which is roughly $292, but we don't know when or where else it will launch yet.
