We've been hearing murmurs of a lite edition of the BlackBerry KEY2 for a little while now, and it appears that they have finally been confirmed. According to FCC documentation, it's officially being dubbed the Blackberry KEY2 LE. There's little known about the device itself, except for other than it likely being a lite version of the BlackBerry KEY2. It's likely to follow the same design language as the original variant released by BlackBerry, including its keyboard and 3:2 aspect ratio display.
BlackBerry KEY2 LE possible specifications
While we don't know anything about the actual specifications that will be used by the BlackBerry KEY2 LE, we can extrapolate from the name that it will have similarities to the regular variant released only last month. Here are the specs for the regular BlackBerry KEY2:

While it's likely some of the specifications will stay the same, it's pretty clear that it will differ in a number of different ways too. A Lite Edition (LE) could suggest a downgraded SoC, RAM, and storage. It could also mean the removal of features such as the backlit keyboard becoming a regular keyboard. There are a few things BlackBerry can do here, and given the complaints of cost, that may be why this device is being released. It's also technically possible that this is actually a Limited Edition, but unlikely given there's less reason to create that than a lite version. What's more, a leak from Evan Blass corroborates that there is indeed a Lite edition being released in the future.

But then that still begs the question – how much will it all cost? $649 is an absurd cost for a device powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660, and BlackBerry may realize that. Making multiple cutbacks is the only way to decrease the cost. There's nothing wrong with the BlackBerry KEY2 itself, and there is definitely a market for such a device at a lower price. We're looking forward to what BlackBerry will bring us in the future, and we simply hope that it will be a little bit more affordable.
