OnePlus 5/5T get OxygenOS 5.1.4 with sleep standby optimization & July security patches

OnePlus 5 OnePlus 5T get OxygenOS 5.1.4

The OnePlus 6 may be the talk of the town due to its thinner bezels, notched display, and latest Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC, but the developers are still working to keep their other current devices supported as well. We recently learned that the company is planning to bring the selfie portrait picture feature from the OnePlus 6 down to the OnePlus 5 and the OnePlus 5T. They even brought the video editing tool that debuted on the OnePlus 6 to the OnePlus 5, OnePlus 5T, and others. Today, the company has announced a new stable version of OxygenOS is headed to these two 2017 smartphones with the headlining feature being the addition of group messaging.

As with the other stable version updates of OxygenOS, the company will begin rolling it out to a small subset of users at first. If they don't detect any critical or widespread bugs then they will continue this process to more OnePlus 5 and 5T owners. This process will continue until everyone has received the OTA update notification. Although, fellow writer Arol Wright did just feature an application called Oxygen Updater last month. So if you don't want to wait for the OTA update or flash an update manually, then be sure to check out that application and let it streamline the process for you.

As I mentioned, the highlight feature of version 5.1.4 of OxygenOS for the OnePlus 5 and the OnePlus 5T is the addition of group messaging. This would be a worthy update in and of itself if that's all that was included, but OnePlus has been working on more things as well. This update to OxygenOS brings your Android security patch level up to July 2018, it added a sleep standby optimization feature and enhanced that by offering advanced optimization options as well.

We're told the update improves the clarity of the camera and includes the typical general bug fixes that we see in just about all Android firmware update. The company did make a special note about the sleep standby optimization feature though and recommends you try it out to get more juice out of your battery. You can find this feature in Settings -> Battery -> battery optimization -> click the three dots -> Advanced optimization -> Sleep Standby optimization.
