Unofficial LineageOS 15.1 and Resurrection Remix for the OnePlus 6 are now available

With the OnePlus 6 only recently making its way into the hands of developers, it'll take some time for stable builds of custom AOSP-based ROMs to be made available for the device. Development for the device may even be a bit delayed because of the dual A/B partition scheme for seamless updates. Since the OnePlus 6 supports Project Treble, though, it should be possible to install an AOSP Generic System Image on it. XDA Recognized Developer phhusson has released builds of LineageOS 15.1 and Resurrection Remix for the device that are based on his work with Treble, and you can try them out now if you really need an AOSP fix.

Both of these builds are classified as experimental at this time since there are some features that do not work. As of writing this article we are told that VoLTE and the night screen filter do not work properly. We did a hands-on of the ROM to see how it fares in its early state, which you can check out here. If you are interested in downloading the LineageOS 15.1 or Resurrection Remix GSIs, then you can do so at the thread below. Both of these builds have OpenGapps integrated.

phhusson does point out that some people have come across issues when trying to flash Generic System Images on the OnePlus 6. After some debugging, it was discovered that you'll need to follow some specific instructions to flash the builds properly onto the device.  XDA Senior Member Exelios posted detailed instructions on how to flash a GSI on the OnePlus 6 successfully. The basic steps involve:

  1. Directly flash vbmeta.img followed by the system.img file
  2. You will also need the latest Fastboot binary with –disable-verity and –disable-verification commands
