Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro’s official Android Oreo update rolls out this week

Redmi Note 5 Pro miui 9.5

Xiaomi has been hard at work releasing new devices and pumping out software updates this week. Now the company has even more news for you. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro in India will be receiving its official Android Oreo update this week in the form of MIUI 9.5 based on Android 8.1 Oreo. It will be entering phase 1 of its staged rollout, so not everybody will get it just yet. If you don't want to wait, the stable OTA build will very likely be shared on our forums for anyone who wants to sideload it.

If you're confused about the differences between the various different Redmi Note 5 versions, don't worry as you aren't alone. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 (non-Pro) in India is actually a rebranded version of the Redmi 5 Plus in China and the Chinese version also has upgraded specs over the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro. There's also a slightly different version of the Indian Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro which is sold as the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 in China. Yes, it's confusing.

Either way, it's great to see that Xiaomi is supporting its devices, even if it may be a bit late given that Android P is just around the corner. Interestingly, MIUI 10 appears to be even closer with a Global Beta ROM being made available earlier this month. If you're wondering what you get in MIUI 9.5 though, the main change is that you'll be on Android Oreo, version 8.1. Notifications are also brought in-line with stock Android on Android Nougat and above devices. Of course, you can expect to see the usual bug fixes and minor improvements too, but that was the main change that Xiaomi introduced with the update.

If you don't get the update, just remember you'll be able to sideload the update once the download link is posted on our forums. If you like to live on the bleeding edge, you can also flash the MIUI 10 China Beta ROM, the MIUI 10 Global Beta ROM, or the unofficial Xiaomi EU MIUI 10 ROM.
