Nokia 7 Plus starts getting Android Pie Beta 4

Android Pie stands out as a pretty significant update for the Android ecosystem. Its significance stems not only from the fact that it revamps the core of Android in many ways (a move to gesture-based navigation, a major re-imagining of Material Design, etc.) but because of the fact that it is the first Android version to be available in beta for a decent number of non-Google devices including the OnePlus 6, the Essential Phone, Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S, and the Nokia 7 Plus. Now that Android 9 is officially available, OEMs are working to bring the first stable Android Pie release to their own devices. In the case of HMD Global, while they're not rolling out a stable release of Android Pie just yet, they are inching ever closer to a stable release with a new beta build of Android Pie for the Nokia 7 Plus.

The company previously released Android P Beta 2 and Android P Beta 3 for the device, and now they're following up with Android P Beta 4 (though since the name is now public, they're calling it Android Pie Beta 4). The update carries the July security patches instead of the recently released August patches. The update is 1480.5 MB in size and is already rolling out in India, according to NokiaPowerUser. And according to Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer of HMD Global's Nokia products, the latest update brings Android Pie's gesture navigations.

If you have a Nokia 7 Plus on the previous Android 9 beta, look out for an OTA update to download the newest build. If you are interested in testing the latest release and aren't on the beta already, simply enroll in the beta program to download the update. The stable update should come in the next few days or weeks, and Nokia has promised Android Pie updates for all their devices—even the lower end ones—so stay tuned if you're interested in getting it on your other HMD Global Nokia-branded device.
