Enable double-tap power button to open camera on the OnePlus 6, OnePlus 5T, and OnePlus 5 in India [Root]

OnePlus 6 Red

The OnePlus 6 is one of the company's best selling flagships to date, but the software experience isn't exactly identical in all regions. In India, for example, the double tap power button gesture to launch the camera is disabled. This is due to laws in the country that require smartphones to have a triple-tap power button gesture to dial emergency services. As such, OnePlus disabled the feature for launching the camera on double tapping the power button to avoid people accidentally triggering an emergency call. Another feature not found on OnePlus devices (and others) is the "Turn on Wi-Fi automatically" feature. This was removed in the developer previews for the Google Nexus 5X and Google Nexus 6P Android Oreo, but it's possible to re-enable it.

If you've got a OnePlus 6, OnePlus 5T, or OnePlus 5 then you're in luck, as both of these features can be enabled via a Magisk module created by XDA Senior Member anirudhnyg. While double tapping the power button to launch the camera is available everywhere other than India, the "Turn on Wi-Fi automatically" feature isn't available in any region. It can be enabled via adb commands though, which is what the Magisk module does for you on boot. Worried about battery drain with this feature? Not to worry, here's how it works. It uses the Wi-Fi scanning service on your device to determine if a connection is a high enough quality for your device to connect to. It uses Google's recommendation services, which looks at whether you've saved the network, if you've connected to it before, and what kind of connection speed it offers.

Looking to install this Magisk module? Check out the thread linked below. The developer claims these features also work on the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T, so give it a try and let us know if it works for you in the comments below!
