Huawei Y7 Prime 2018 is official with 6-inch HD+ display, Dual Cameras, and Android Oreo

The Huawei Y7 Prime 2018 is now official. This is a refresh of the popular Huawei Y7 Prime which launched in May of 2017. While the device's chassis differs hugely from its predecessor, the overall specifications should stay true to the original. The device is aiming to be an affordable low-end phone with some unique features over competitors. While the specifications aren't fully confirmed yet, we can expect to see more or less the same parts as last year's model.

The colors the device will be available in haven't been released yet, but for now, Rose Gold and Blue are confirmed.

The Huawei Y7 Prime in 2017 was powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 435, so it's likely we'll see something similar this time around. We will be seeing upgraded RAM and storage configuration, with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage, complete with microSD card support. Last year's model had 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage.

As for the screen, the device has a 1440×720 18:9 HD+ screen at 5.99 inches. It will also have dual cameras at 13MP and 2MP for depth perception complete with a wide aperture mode and face unlock support. The Huawei Y7 Prime 2018 will also have a 3,000mAh battery, which is a downgrade from its predecessor. It's unknown what charging method the device will use, whether it is USB-C or microUSB. In the software department, the Huawei Y7 Prime 2018 will be launching with EMUI 8.0 based on Android Oreo. This not only means you'll have the latest and greatest features available, but Project Treble support will also be present, which works well on Huawei devices.

There is no known release date or a list of what regions the device will be available in, but it's expected to launch in the same regions as the previous device (India, China, and other selected regions). Those looking to import the device shouldn't expect to see the price exceed $250, which may still seem pretty pricey for a lower-end phone.

For those worried about a lower build quality due to having a cheaper device like the Huawei Y7 Prime 2018, Huawei has that covered already. A number of exhaustive tests have been published along with the launch announcement page, including power button tests, USB plug-in tests, temperature tests, and earphone plug-in tests.
