OnePlus 3/3T Receives an Update to OxygenOS v4.1.7, Fixes App Locker Bug and More

OnePlus has just announced a new OTA update for the OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 3T that brings its stable version of OxygenOS up to 4.1.7. Other than new security patches, we aren't seeing any new features added but it has tackled some others that have been brought up in the past. The company mentions this update brings some battery improvements to the two devices as well as "enhanced system fluidity," but we'll have to wait and see if this can be perceived by everyday usage.

One interesting thing mentioned here in this changelog is the bug fix that is listed for the device's app locker feature. Privacy is important for a lot of people and this is likely why OnePlus integrated their app locker feature into OxygenOS in the first place. Late last week we covered a method that allows someone with access to your unlocked OnePlus device to bypass this app locking feature. Be sure to check it out if you haven't already so you know how it works.

We spoke with OnePlus about it and was informed that they would be pushing out a fix for it in an upcoming OTA update. Thankfully it didn't take them long to block this bypass so now you can feel safer when using it. As mentioned, this OTA update also comes with some security patches and will bring you up to date with Android's August security level. The rest of the changes included in this OxygenOS 4.1.7 OTA update for the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T are classified as bug fixes.

Firstly, some reported a sound channel error when recording videos so thankfully that looks to be fixed now. They were also aware of some 3rd-party applications using the speaker when placing a phone call and that has been fixed as well. A rendering issue with the Indian Kannada language has been fixed, and at Google's request, Hangouts is being removed but only if you have never updated via the Play Store. You're instructed to update it before applying this update if you want to keep it.
